2013.4.6 SANOMAGIC Wooden Bicycle
2013年4月6日土曜日、東京はビュウビュウ風が吹いています。
天気がおかしいけれど、
マホガニーバイク小径3号機(MWR-3)を見に行くよ。
この自転車のオーナーは、自転車部品メーカー[Karasawa Traffic Equipment Co., Ltd.]のオーナー。
自社製品であるドラムブレーキを装着して欲しいとのご要望。
新しい試みはどうだったかな。
On April 6, 2013, I visited SANOMAGIC to watch Mini Wheel Road No. 3 ("MWR-3")
which has been just completed.
The owner of this bike is the owner of Karasawa Traffic Equipment Co., Ltd.
He asked Sueshiro to install their product, a drum brake, on MWR-3.
How was the new attempt?
完成したばかりの小径車3号機。なんだかフレームがとてもすっきりしている。
なんでかな、と思ったら、いつものスーパーレコードリアブレーキが無いのだ。
代わりに、後輪には見慣れないドラムブレーキが装着されています。
The Mini Wheel Road No. 3, MWR-3, has been just completed.
The frame looks simpler than before.
I noticed it is because no rear brake is attached on the seat stay.
Instead, a new drum brake is installed on the rear wheel.
風がかなり強いので、工場内で撮影。

I took pictures inside the factory because of strong wind.

ジオメトリーはMWR-2とほぼ同じ。
The geometry of the frame is same as that of MWR-2.
重量は、ドラムブレーキの分、若干重いとのこと。
The weight is slightly heavier than that of MWR-2 due to the drum brake.
ほら、フレームがすっきりしているでしょう。シートステーにブレーキもケーブルも無いため。小径車２号機を下に並べてみる。
Because a brake and a cable are not attached on the seat stay,
the frame looks having been simplified in comparison with MWR-2 below.
製作前は若干渋っていたらしい末四郎ですが、フレームがすっきりするし、
マホガニーリムがブレーキシューでこすられないため、
この点はとてもいい、と満足げ。
今度はディスクブレーキにしようか、と考え始めています。
From this experience, Sueshiro began to consider the merit of installing
disk brakes on mahogany bikes.
厚みのあるドラムブレーキの装着には苦労したようです。
さらにリアハブの幅がマウンテンバイク規格のものしかなく、
シートステーの長さに比してシートステーのエンド幅がかなり大きくなっている。
Sueshiro said that it was difficult to mount on the mahogany bike a thick
drum brake and a long rear hub for mountain bikes.

ペダルを取り付け、さっそく試乗させてもらう。＼(^O^)/
おお、こぎ出しが軽く、乗り心地は最高。ぐーんとスピードが出ます。振動も来ない。
納品前のリムを気にすることなく、リアブレーキをかけられます。
軽快、軽快。このままサイクリングに出かけたい。
Pedals were installed, and I was allowed to test ride.
Pedaling was very smooth and light, and vibration from ground was considerably
reduced by the mahogany structure.
It is not necessary to concern about the friction on the shiny surface
of the mahogany rear rim.
ドラムブレーキの経験で、また新しい世界が開きました。
A window for new world may be opened by experiencing a drum brake.
前輪は少し前に製作してあったもの。陽を浴びて赤くなっています。
The front wheel is redder than others because it was produced in advance.
他の部分もこれから同じように赤くなっていく。
MWR-3は、上海自転車ショーのKARASAWA社ブースに展示される予定。
4月末に末四郎が上海まで運びます。
Hereafter, other parts will redden similarly.
MWR-3 is scheduled to be exhibited in KARASAWA's booth at the Shanghai
bicycle show 2013.
さて、本日のマホガニースピーカー達。
お、新しい三脚スピーカーがあります。
Today's mahogany speakers.
There are new mahogany speakers with tripods.
これは、軽井沢ニューアートミュージーアムに展示する、新作のマホガニースピーカー。
4月8日に運ぶところだったそうです。移動前に聴けてよかった。
These are mahogany speakers which are exhibited in the Karuizawa New Art
Museum.
小さいのに、音がとってもよく響きます。
うっとり聞き惚れる。
In spite of small size, they sound sweet.
軽井沢ニューアートミュージーアムでも、この音が、多くの人を驚かせることでしょう。
Their deep and sweet sound will surprise many guests at the Karuizawa New
Art Museum.
SANOMAGIC に自転車を見に来たお客さんは皆、しばらく自転車を見て話をした後、
はっとして工場の奥を見やり、「ところで、なんでこんなにいい音がしているんですか」と聞くという。
All guests who visit SANOMAGIC to watch mahogany bikes are surprised to
hear
sweet sound of mahogany speakers flowing from the interior of the factory.
桐の専門家から打診され、末四郎が試作した桐のスピーカー。
マホガニースピーカーとはまた違う音がするとのこと。
百見は一聴にしかず。さっそく聴いてみましょう。
Sueshiro made these speakers using paulownia wood on an experimental basis.
He found that paulownia wood makes sound different from that of mahogany.

最初は桐、次にマホガニーを鳴らします。
録画はソニーのデジカメRX100。内蔵マイクによる録音なので、録音音質が悪い点はご容赦。
それでも、桐とマホガニーの違いがわかります。
