ヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバート博物館(V&A)からのT2の帰還、
14号機の製造工程など、末四郎撮影の興味深い写真で紹介します。
Mr. Gus and his handmade wooden beach cruiser from Australia,
solid tires fixed on MWR-T1, and T2 returning from the V&A.

1月5日にSANOMAGICにやってきたGUSさん。
マホガニー小径車MWR-T1に乗ってごきげん。
Mr. Gus came to SANOMAGIC by his bicycle on January 5.
He enjoyed Mahogany mini wheel bike MWR-T1.

GUSさんが乗ってきたのは、GUSさん自作の3号機。ビーチクルーザー。
かっこいいね。ホイールベースが120cmもある。
Wooden bike No. 3 made by Mr. Gus is a cool beach cruiser. It's wheel base is 120 cm!

オーストラリアでは、ロードバイクは若者の乗り物、
年配の方は、個性的なビーチクルーザーでのんびり走るのが流行だそうです。
"In Australia, road bikes are vehicles for young people,
senior people prefer to ride unique beach cruisers", he said.

マホガニー小径車MWR-T1と並べるとその巨大さが引き立つ。
When the beach cruiser comes next to MWR-T1, its hugeness becomes remarkable.

GUSさんバイクはサドルの取り付け方法がユニーク。
The saddle structure of Mr. Gus's bike is unique.

末四郎の感想では、スピードはともかく、ゆったりした走行感が日本自転車とは異質とのこと。
"The relaxed running feeling of his bike is different from those of Japanese bikes", Sueshiro said.

ガスさんとビーチクルーザー。オーストラリアからようこそ。　
東京も随分走り回り、あちこちで足跡を残したようです。

They ran widely around Tokyo, and it seems to have left tracks here and there.

さて、これは何でしょう。
小径車MWR-T1のソリッドタイヤ固定用ダボの製造工程です。
What do you suppose is this?
This is the manufacturing process of dowels for fixing solid tires on MWR-T1.

これが完成したマホガニーダボ。
小径車MWR-T1のスポーク穴にはめ込み、ソリッドタイヤの内周に空けた穴に結合させます。
These are the mahogany dowels.
The dowels are embedded in spoke holes of mahogany rims,
and are inserted into holes formed on the inner side of solid tires.

ソリッドタイヤへのダボはめ込みがとても堅いため、一斗缶のお風呂で暖めた。
なぜか、湯気の向こうに由美かおるを思い出した。
Because the solid tires were hard, they had a hot bath.
This sight reminded me of Yumi Kaoru who was popular for beautiful bathing scene.

マホガニーリムのスポーク穴にマホガニーダボをはめ込んだ様子。ソリッドタイヤの捻れ防止のため。
The dowel embedded in a spoke hole prevents the torsion of the solid tire.

苦戦の末、白いソリッドタイヤが小径車MWR-T1に取り付けられた。
At last, white solid tires were installed on MWR-T1.

マホガニー色と白が末四郎のヨットデザインの基調。
その点からも、白いタイヤを装着したかったようです。
The mahogany color and white are keynotes of the yacht design of Sueshiro.
So he would like to use white tires.

絶対パンクしないタイヤのため、どこまでも走っていける。
パンクしないというのも、自転車の未来形として重要だと思う。
I think that no-puncture tire is worth as a future of the bicycle.

1月8日、末四郎はV&A博物館からマホガニーバイクT2を引き取るため、ロンドンに出発した。
Sueshiro went to London on January 8 to receive Mahogany Bike T2 from the V&A museum.

POWER OF MAKING の展示場で半年ぶりにT2と対面。
He met T2 in the exhibition hall of "Power of Making" for the first time in a half year.

博物館の前で、記念撮影をした。
He took commemorative pictures in front of the museum with T2.

T2はPOWER OF MAKING の主要展示物だったと、V&A館長は仰っていたそうです。
"T2 was the most important exhibit of the Power of Making", the curator said.

V&Aは1851年に設立されたイギリス国立博物館で、
ヴィクトリア女王とアルバート公が基礎を築いた。だからV&A。
The V&A is a British National Museum established in 1851
by the queen Victoria and the Sir Albert. Therefore, it is "V&A".

日本の博物館に展示しなくてよいのかな。イギリスは認めてくれましたが。
I wonder why Japanese museums do not offer any exhibition for SANOMAGIC mahogany bikes.

半年間のお務め、ご苦労様でした。
Sueshiro thanks T2 for the solitude in a half year.

記念撮影の後、早速解体。新木場が待っているぞ。

Sueshiro met Mr. and Mrs. Huisman of the Royal Huisman at London.

さて、T2も無事に帰還し、SANOMAGICではマホガニーバイク14号の製作が静かに進む。
The 14th Mahogany Bike production progresses steadily in SANOMAGIC.

ベニヤ板の原図に合わせて積層体用のプレートを切り出す。
Templates are cut off in accordance with the original drawing.

完成したマホガニー薄板。パーツ毎に束ねられている。
板の厚さはパーツ毎に異なる。
Mahogany plates are bundled for respective parts.
Thicknesses of mahogany plates are different from each other.

原図に基づき、パーツ毎に型板も作られる。大変だねえ。(-_-;)
Mold plates are also prepared in accordance with the templates.
