2012.05.19-6.16 SANOMAGIC Wooden Bicycle

5月19日～6月16日の記録。6月5日にマホガニーバイク15号機が完成しました。次回は15号機に試乗します。
Record of May 19 to June 16, 2012. Mahogany Bike No. 15 was completed on June 5. I will ride Mahogany Bike No. 15 next time.

今回、まずは家具のご紹介から。
This time, let's start from the introduction of mahogany furniture.

この家具は2年前に納品したものですが、今回は一部補修のため里帰り中。
This chest sold two years ago is now being repaired at SANOMAGIC.

かなり凝った作りで、フロントが湾曲している。
This chest has a complicated shape. The front face is curved.

湾曲面の中に象眼細工がはめ込まれている。塗装は2年前のまま。
Marquetries were applied in the curving face. Varnish remains original.

引き出しを開けたところ。総マホガニー作りなので、開け閉めがとても軽い。
Since this chest is made of mahogany, opening and closing the drawers is very light.

細部の組み立てに神が宿る。
The god stays in the assembly of the detail.

猫足の先端ひとつにも見とれてしまう。
Fascinating cabriole leg.

この家具の可動部は全て分解可能で、数十年後に摩耗すれば部品を交換できる。例の200年家具の作りになっている。
All moving parts are exchangeable. It is necessary for 200-years wooden furnitures.

5月19日の15号機フレーム。形は既にできあがっている。
Mahogany frame of Bike No. 15.

15号機フレームはT2を踏襲。しかし、最初はやや厚めに作り、試乗して削ってオーナーにとっての最適値を探す予定。
The frame of Mahogany Bike No. 15 was made to follow the frame of Mahogany Bike T2.
Sueshiro makes Mahogany frames a little thicker than the expected optimum, and shaves them while testing by actual driving.

巨大な曲げ応力が閉じ込められたヘッドチューブ。
Head tube where huge bend stress was confined.

エンド金具の取り付けも完了した。
The installation of the end metal fittings was completed.

こちらはT2。実験のため、フロントに62mmのマホガニーディープリムが取り付けられている。
A mahogany deep rim of 62mm was installed in T2 for experiment.

すごい迫力です。試乗したところ、路面からの振動がさらに無くなり、信じられない滑らかさ。
速度上はこれほどディープにする必要はないとのことですが、振動吸収性と保針性が向上しているとのこと。
Vibration from the road was further reduced, and I felt unbelievable smoothness.
Sueshiro said that such deepness is not necessary in view of speed but it improves vibrational absorption and directional stability.

製作はとても難しいそうです。左右互い違いのスポーク穴の処理を見ても、頷けます。バルブキャップがキノコの山みたいで、かわいい。
Production of mahogany deep rims is very difficult, Sueshiro says. Mahogany valve cap looks cute.

ディープリムの薄さがわかりますな。なお、末四郎は将来、ディープリムを中空化してみると言っています。
You can see the thinness of the mahogany deep rim.
Sueshiro plans to make mahogany deep rims hollow.

弾性支持スピーカー3号機を皆で試聴。好きなCD持参で聴きに来る人も多い。
この間、ガラス製のCDを持ってきた人がいた。1枚で20万円位するそうです。恐ろしくて触れませんな。たかが音楽、されど音楽。
Listening of elasticly-supported mahogany speakers. Many customers came to SANOMAGIC with their favorite CDs.
The other day, there was a customer who brought CDs made of glass.

幅2cm×厚さ0.8cmくらいのマホガニーバネ。華奢に見えますが…
Mahogany laminating springs only have a width of 2cm and a thickness of 0.8cm.

強度はこの通り。3本のバネで末四郎の体重84kgを軽く支える。
他の木材では一発破断でしょう。恐るべし、積層マホガニー。
Three springs easily support Sueshiro of 84kg.

6月5日、マホガニーバイク15号機が完成。末四郎撮影です。シートポストは高さ調整可能となっている。
Mahogany Bike No. 15 was completed on June 5, 2012. The height of the seat post can be adjusted.

6月10日、末四郎は梅雨の晴れ間に15号機を横浜まで試乗。ややフレームが堅かったため、フレームを削ることに。
マホガニーバイクは緑にとてもよく映える。
Sueshiro rode Bike No. 15 to Yokohama on June 10, 2012. Mahogany bike harmonizes with a green field.

6月16日、雨天ながら15号機を取材に行く。T2に似た仕上がりだが、フレーム各部のエッジに特徴がある。
あ、ハンドルの形がかなり違う。T2と比較する。
Although it was rain on June 16, 2012, I went to cover Mahogany Bike No. 15 at SANOMAGIC.

フロントフォーク、チェーンステーなどに、きりっとしたエッジが入った。
Impressive ridges were formed on the front fork and chain stay and so on.

トップチューブの両サイドにも特徴的な面取りが。
Characteristic chamferings were formed on both sides of the top tube.

今日は雨で試乗できないのが残念。来週はぜひ試乗したいです。晴れるといいな。
I regret that I could not ride Bike No. 15 because of the rain.

フロントフォークのエッジ。きりっとして、刀のようです。
The front fork looks like a Japanese sword.

15号機のサドル。
Saddle of Bike No. 15.

ボトルケージも一つずつ微妙に形が違うような。
The shape of bottle cage seems to differ from those of previous mahogany bikes.

16号機のサドル。テレビ取材のため、先行して製作している。そういえば、最近取材が多いな。
日本が精神のよりどころを求めていたりして。
The saddle of Mahogany Bike No. 16. Sueshiro is making this for a television program.

先日納品した弾性支持スピーカ2号機の形状を踏襲した4号機が完成。前面にも象眼細工が入った。
Elastically-supported speaker No. 4.

えらく豪華な作りになっています！　ツイーターも金色に輝いている。
This has a gorgeous appearance. Gold shining tweeters.

スピーカーユニットの縁もマホガニーのリングで固定した。
The peripheral edges of speaker units are covered by mahogany ring plates.

この4号機が当面、SANOMAGICの試聴用スピーカーとなります。
先日、専門家が試聴したところ、新木場の商用電源による影響が出ているとのことで、高価な安定化電源をお借りして試験する予定。
